The attribution to the famous vedutista is confirmed by the presence of a monogram with the initials G. V. W. in the lower left-hand corner.
The presence of subjects of this type with ruins, seascapes and sea storms, as well as holiday themes and rural and seasonal activities was frequent in this period. This was especially true in the Roman environment, as demonstrated by the Museum's collection, which includes the nucleus of the Martini family, collectors particularly attentive to the prevailing fashion of the time. In fact, this type of small-format work, executed in tempera on parchment or paper, is very popular because it meets particular decorative and furnishing requirements.
