"Forms of Time: Paola Angelini"

From 20 May 2017 to 9 July 2017

Paintings, drawings, three large canvases and some sculptures by the artist Paola Angelini show to the public a choral and original re-elaboration of the essence of a museum that holds masterpieces of art together with the identity and memory of Prato. "Pretorio Studio. Forms of Time: Paola Angelini "is the temporary exhibition that will be inaugurated on the 20th of May, during the Museums’ Night, and will be open until the 9th of July in Palazzo Pretorio.

An exhibition which is the result of an intense research work that is part of the Pretorio Studio project, launched in the Autumn 2016, conceived by Veronica Caciolli in order to enhance the museum and its collection through the collaboration with contemporary artists. The project revolves around the concept of time and its historical, stylistic, symbolic manifestations, with the intent to make them resound in the present perspective and through the opening to all languages. It consists of three times: a research time consisting of a residence in the museum, a period of development, and the final presentation through an exhibition. From time to time, the interpretation of shared and hidden signs will be entrusted to the peculiar ability of each artist, from whose vision a plot of times and places, shapes and narratives will emerge over eight centuries. The first invited artist is the young Paola Angelini (San Benedetto del Tronto, 1983). During her residence in December 2016, the artist produced fourteen canvases and ten drawings, working on every floor and trying to capture the most elusive impressions of the museum, extending her gaze to the details of the palace, frescoes and set-up. From December to May, the artist worked in her studio in Ghent, Belgium, producing three other large canvases that synthesize in a single image different subjects, thus reconstructing a unique perspective of the museum. The palette that the artist has set reflects the one used for the permanent installation of the works. Even recurrences such as the nervous brush, the dense scenarios, the epiphanic color and the harmonious acceptance of chaos give way to a more dominated representation, Apollonian, dictated by the superego rather than by the ego, sometimes absorbing the Flemish context and great space tradition.
In the rooms of the temporary exhibitions on the ground floor and on the upper floors of the museum, the large canvases will be exhibited together with the new sculpture production and a selection of works realized during the residence.

During the inauguration, the artist will guide the visitors along her exhibition through a continuous comparison with the collection.
On the 13th of July the catalog of the exhibition will be presented; it inaugurates the new editorial production of Palazzo Pretorio, with Quaderni digitali. In addition to the reproduction of all the works, the publication will collect a text by Veronica Caciolli and a dialogue with the artist on all the experience she has taken. From the following day, the catalog can be downloaded free of charge from the museum's website www.palazzopretorio.prato.it
